Working in Scotland
More and more high-end productions are choosing Scotland for filming and post production, thanks to healthy investment, a strong creative sector, competitive tax credits, its indigenous natural landscape and scenery, and a world-class talent pool. Scotland now makes up approximately 15% of the UK’s regional stage space for filming, owing to the growing range of re-purposed assets and studio conversion opportunities designed to accommodate major feature film and high-end television productions.
An estimated £617.4 million was spent on the production of film, TV and other audiovisual content in Scotland in 2021, compared to £398.6 million in 2019, and over 80% of the £218.8 million net increase in production spending between 2019 and 2021 was driven by film and HETV production.
Many leading game developers have their base in Scotland, and Abertay University in Dundee has been ranked as the number one university for video game degrees for the last seven years.
